The foremost objective of the BDF is to function as the business development arm of the Centre. This structure will develop a strategy for seeking and securing funding, aiming to boost the Estonian deep-tech start-up sector in the field of bioengineering, including medical and industrial biotechnology. Through collaboration with the ECB, access to field-specific equipment and lab space will be provided. A network of start-ups, investors, and mentors will be built locally, regionally, and globally.
As a basic source of inspiration and the blueprint for the BDF, we will use the highly acclaimed Danish BioInnovation Institute. The BDF will be guided by the CFB, which has extensive experience in discovering opportunities and screening novel technologies that could contribute to sustainability in the biotech and bioeconomy area. In addition, the BDF will raise awareness of the emerging bioeconomy. It will accelerate regional biotech and IT sector networking as well as ecosystem development. Another novel direction seeks to develop public-private and public-public partnerships alongside fundraising initiatives. The BDF has strong potential to improve communication among stakeholders, driving funding and policy decisions towards the integrations of biotech and IT sectors in Estonia.
