The SIO is being built under the guidance of our Danish partner (DTU) to follow their success and experience in guiding more than 25 start-ups in the first 10 years of the Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre for Biosustainability. The SIO will screen emerging technologies from the ECB while focusing on techno-economical and lifecycle analysis and guiding the process of IP protection. The market assessment of possible technologies will act as a filter to select the most promising ideas for commercialization. With the help of SIO, emerging technologies will be evaluated based on their scalability potential, risk assessment and value proposition for the Centre as well as their socio-economic impact.
It will also provide the basis for spin-off companies by supporting PIs early in evaluating techno-economic and lifecycle performance, market possibilities, and potential collaborators. The secondary mission and vision of the SIO and the Bioeconomy Development Foundation (BDF) are to find investment and funding opportunities in Estonia and abroad and to collaborate with incubators, business developers, customers, and partners in industry and academia. Special emphasis will be paid to establishing long-term connections with the world-class Estonian IT start-up sector and its investors, entrepreneurs, and professionals.
